Complementary and Essential Role of Transesophageal Echocardiography in the Evaluation of Atrial Lesion: Representative Cases

Abstract
The transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) transducer lies adjacent to the posterior surface of the heart and is seperated from the diagnostically interested anatomical foci of the heart by a distance of only a few centimeters. It overcomes many
of the
limitation of a precordial transthoracic echocardiographic (TTE) examinationand provides a new window to the correct diagnosis.
The purpose of this report was 1) to survey the distribution (table 1,2) of various atrial lesions investigated by application of TEE 2) to represent the unique cases (Figure 1-20) for whose evaluation TEE was essential and useful. Our practical
experience with TEE speaks well for generous application of TEE when TEE findings are deficent in elucidating atrial lesions.
